During the AcroYoga workshops Bex taught us firstly how to work together in partners or in small groups, working with exercises that build trust and confidence.
Then we slowly built up to trying more acrobatic postures!! When we saw the demonstrations most people would raise their eyebrows and think 'there´s no way I can do that!!' But with Bex's expert guidance and step by step instructions, most people found that they could do them!!
The photo above shows us in the 'bird'... the basic flying posture!! This posture is super fun for the flyer (or the bird!) but for the baser is't also great, as it releases the sacrum.
Above right we were practising the partner handstand!! It took us quite a few attempts but we made it!
In the photo above Bex is showing us how we can move into yoga postures such as an inverted Dhanurasana (bow posture) whilst flying!
For me, learning AcroYoga with Bex was a huge step forward in my yoga practice. Why else do we practice yoga in the first place if it's not to connect better and share experiences with the people around us? Acro taught me that yoga doesn't have to be a solitary practice always. It teaches you to work with others,to trust and to support, and most importantly, learning to open, enjoy the practice and LAUGH!!
Luckily our practice of AcroYoga doesn't stop here. Bex is planning to come back to stay with us and teach us more Acro in September!! Watch this space, as we will be letting you know dates soon!! Another fun filled week of Surf and Acro is not far away!!
